The principle of flowering of snow willow branches

Snow willow is a plant of the genus Snow Willow of the family Oleaceae. It grows leaves first and then flowers. When the flowers fade, there will be spike-shaped fruits. When they grow old, they will crack and willow catkins will float everywhere when the wind blows.

The dry branches of snow willow we bought online are branches of snow willow, which is a kind of flower material that can be grown dry or in water. The dry branches of snow willow can bloom mainly because the dry branches of the plant are not dead, and can absorb nutrients normally, thus maintaining the normal growth of the plant.

How long it takes for it to grow from a dry branch to sprout and bloom is mainly affected by the ambient temperature, humidity and light conditions. It should be kept in an environment of around 15°C and with 4 hours of scattered sunlight a day.

Dry-branch snow willow usually blooms in 2-3 weeks . If the environment is not suitable, the flowering time will naturally be delayed and may take more than a month.

Are the dried branches of snow willow useless after they bloom?

Dry branches of snow willow are cut branches. When it blooms, it can no longer be maintained. However, we can maintain it as a dried flower, but the ornamental value is not high. Therefore, dry branches of snow willow will not bloom in the second year after flowering . Generally, it will be discarded after flowering, which is basically scrapped.

How to care for the flowering of snow willow branches

Branch selection

The dry branch snow willow is different from the dry branch azalea. It is not a protected wild plant. It is mostly an artificially cultivated ornamental seedling, and proper pruning of branches is beneficial to its growth. Therefore, it can be sold normally like other ornamental plants, and it is not "prohibited from buying and selling" as circulated on the Internet.

When choosing branches, you can choose the length according to your own viewing needs. Generally, branches with a length of about 40-80CM, more branches and full buds are preferred. Such branches are more active and easier to germinate and bloom.

Branch processing

After getting the dry branches of snow willow, the treatment before vase placement is basically the same as that of ordinary fresh cut flowers , and both need to be pruned and awakened. You can first appropriately shorten the dry and dehydrated parts of the lower ends of the branches by about 5 cm.

The water-entering end is trimmed into a 45-degree horseshoe-shaped bevel cut to increase the absorption area of water and nutrients. Then, we use a large bucket or sink to fully soak the branches for 2-3 hours to allow the branches to fully absorb water and complete the process of waking up the flowers .

Daily maintenance

After the branches have woken up, choose a suitable vase and insert the branches into the vase in an orderly manner according to your personal preference. Add an appropriate amount of clean water, generally 1/3 of the total height of the vase. Place it in a well-ventilated and diffused light environment indoors, and change the water every 3-4 days.

If you have hydroponic plant nutrient solution or fresh cut flower preservative at home, you can also add a little bit when changing the water. In a dry indoor environment, you can also spray the branches once a day. Under normal circumstances, tender buds will appear at the bud point in about a week, and small white flowers will begin to bloom in about 2-3 weeks .
