How to propagate glass jade by cuttings and precautions How to propagate glass jade by cuttings

Glass Jade is a plant of the Impatiens family and a common flower in the home. It likes a warm and humid growing environment. Glass Jade can be propagated by cuttings, and can be propagated by soil culture or hydroponic methods.

Glass Jade Cutting Time

As long as the temperature is suitable, glass jade can be propagated all year round , but it is easier to survive if it is propagated during the plant's growth period . Glass jade grows slowly in winter and summer and is not suitable for propagation, so it is best to choose the cool and mild spring and autumn for propagation.

How to propagate glass jade by cuttings

1. Cutting medium

The substrate for cutting glass jade should be loose and breathable sandy soil . You can choose fine river sand, peat soil or clean sawdust. These materials should be sterilized at high temperature before cutting. They can be used alone or mixed. After sterilization, put them into the hole tray or flower pot and spray them with water for use.

2. Cuttings

For cuttings of glass jade, choose thick branches that are one to two years old , and keep two to three leaf nodes on each cutting. Cut the lower end of the cutting into an oblique horseshoe shape, cut off the two leaves at the bottom, and only keep a small leaf at the top. Cuttings should be planted immediately after cutting, and do not leave them for too long to wilt before planting.

3. Cutting operation

The cuttings of glass begonia are relatively fragile and not easy to insert directly into the substrate. You should first use a small bamboo pole or a small wooden stick to poke some holes in the substrate , and then gently insert the cuttings into the holes . After inserting, spray the cuttings with water immediately, and then place them in a well-ventilated and weak light place for maintenance.

Things to note after cutting glass jade

After cutting, the glass jade should be placed in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance , avoiding direct sunlight. The water of the hydroponic glass jade branches needs to be changed every 4 days in summer and every 5-6 days in spring and autumn. The new water needs to be dried before use.
