How many chives should be planted in one nest?

7-10 leeks can be planted in each nest. When transplanting leeks, if the number of transplants in each nest is too small, it will lead to a waste of planting land and a poor harvest .

If the number of transplanted leek roots is too large in each nest , the plants will be very dense and the leek will have no space to grow . This is not only not conducive to the growth of leek, but also easy to cause diseases and pests during the planting process .

How to transplant leek roots

Transplanting

Choose a plot of land with loose, fertile soil and convenient irrigation and drainage. Leek is a fertilizer-tolerant vegetable, and applying sufficient base fertilizer is one of the important measures to make leeks grow tall and thick and produce high yields.

Apply 1500-2000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure per mu, and add an appropriate amount of phosphorus fertilizer. Then level the land and make ridges with a width of 2-3 meters. Transplanting is usually carried out in late June to early July, and base fertilizer is applied to the planting ditch.

Before transplanting, cut off the ends of the fibrous roots of the chives and arrange them into small bunches even with the bulbs . Plant in flat beds with a row spacing of 50 cm and a hole spacing of 16 to 26 cm. It is appropriate to plant 6 to 10 plants in each hole. When transplanting, it is advisable not to bury the leaf sheaths . After planting, tamp down the soil and water in time.

Field management

When the new leaves of leek are out, water should be poured to slow down the seedling growth, and inter-cultivation should be carried out to conserve moisture, so as to keep the soil dry and moist. After the fall, when leek grows most vigorously, it is necessary to fully supply fertilizer and water.

Later, the temperature gradually decreases, the plant grows slowly, and the surface of the soil is kept moist. In the year when leeks are planted, the management is mainly to apply fertilizer to promote growth.

Harvest

The yield of leek roots is low in the first 1-2 years after planting, the 3-6 years are the peak growth period with the highest yield, and it enters the aging stage after 10 years.

Leeks can be harvested all year round, and it is best to harvest them in the early morning . It is best to cut to the yellow leaf sheath 3-4cm above the bulb, and each subsequent cut should be slightly higher than the previous one to ensure normal growth.
