How much quicklime is needed to disinfect one acre of soil?

If it is spread in the field before sowing crops, it can play a role in regulating the acidity and alkalinity of the soil. Generally, it can be used in combination with land preparation and fertilization by first spreading it evenly on the ground and then deep plowing it into the underground soil.

However, it should be noted that if it is used for broadcasting or deep plowing, the amount of lime should be flexibly adjusted according to the acidity and alkalinity of the cultivated soil. The soil pH value can be measured before use. Under normal circumstances, the amount of quicklime per mu of cultivated land should be controlled at about 30-100 kg .

What kind of soil is suitable for using quicklime?

In plots with serious soil acidification, plots with heavy soil viscosity, sandy soil with shallow soil layer, steep slopes, plots where acid fertilizers are used in large quantities, areas with relatively high rainfall, and crops with strong acid resistance (such as cucumbers and pumpkins, etc.), more quicklime can be applied before crop sowing, while in other plots, less quicklime should be applied.

In addition, quicklime should not be used in plots with neutral or alkaline soil pH (pH value below 7.5). If too much quicklime is used, excessive use of lime may cause excessive salinization of the soil.

Generally speaking, the amount of lime used per mu for weakly acidic plots can be controlled at 30-40 kg, for lightly acidic plots at 40-60 kg, and for heavily acidic plots at 60-100 kg. Note that quicklime should not be used on alkaline or neutral plots.

Effect and dosage of quicklime

1. Prevent pests and diseases

If it is applied in holes or furrows during crop planting or growth period, it can prevent and control various root soil-borne diseases . Usually it can be applied before the peak of crop diseases and pests or at the early stage of diseases and pests.

Use quicklime at a dosage of 25-30 kg per mu, 10-15 kg along the ditch, and 200-250 grams per hole.

If lime water is used for root irrigation or hole irrigation, quicklime and clean water can be mixed and dissolved in a ratio of 1:4 , and then irrigated around the root system of the crop. However, be careful not to allow the lime water to directly contact the root system of the crop.

2. Disinfection and sterilization

If lime water is used for spraying to disinfect or prevent pests and diseases, 5%-10% lime water filtrate can be used for spraying.

3. Prevent low temperature damage

If lime is used to prevent low temperature damage or alleviate pesticide damage, 0.5% lime water filtrate can be sprayed before the cold air arrives or after the crop is damaged by pesticides.
