How to grow a potted osmanthus tree to make it grow well? Indoor osmanthus cultivation methods and precautions

Potted osmanthus trees are a very easy plant to grow. First of all, this is because the osmanthus tree has very tenacious vitality and is a very easy to grow flowering and foliage plant. Secondly, the osmanthus tree likes sunlight very much, so as long as it is planted in a place with sufficient light, there will basically be no problems.

How to make potted osmanthus bloom more

1. Soil

Osmanthus likes fertile and deep soil. It is best to use loose and breathable slightly acidic loam to avoid yellow leaves and rotten roots. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil and vermiculite to make soil for planting. Such soil has sufficient nutrients, good air permeability and drainage, which can meet the growth needs of osmanthus.

2. Temperature

Osmanthus fragrans is not cold-resistant, and its suitable temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees. It will stop growing when it is above 30 degrees. In summer, it needs to be shaded and maintained, and some water mist should be sprayed around the plant to cool it down. In winter, anti-freeze work should be done well, and the temperature should be kept above 10 degrees to prevent frost damage and affect growth next year.

3. Lighting

Osmanthus is a flower that is resistant to high temperatures and loves sunlight. As a long-day plant, it needs to receive sufficient light every day to meet its growth needs and carry out good photosynthesis.

You can place osmanthus on a balcony with sufficient light, or grow it outdoors in summer to avoid placing it in a shaded environment for a long time, which will cause the branches of the osmanthus to become thin and weak, and affect the growth and differentiation of flower buds.

4. Watering

The correct watering method can ensure the healthy growth of osmanthus, which is a very important link. When watering osmanthus, you must remember the principle of "don't water unless it's dry, and water thoroughly when you need to water", and keep the soil slightly moist.

If you water too much, the roots will rot. If it is the rainy season, you must reduce watering. When the climate is dry, you can spray some water vapor on the osmanthus to increase the air humidity.

5. Fertilization

The amount of osmanthus flowers blooming is directly proportional to the amount of fertilizer applied. It is necessary to provide sufficient fertilizer for osmanthus. Especially during the growth period, remember the method of "thin fertilizer and frequent application". Apply light fertilizer to osmanthus every two weeks or so, which can promote the growth of branches and make the branches and leaves more luxuriant. In May, change to fertilizing every 10 days.

Precautions for cultivating potted osmanthus trees

1. Pests and diseases

Common diseases of osmanthus include leaf spot, leaf blight, sooty mold, etc. These diseases will cause the leaves of osmanthus to turn yellow and fall off, affecting its ornamental value. When the disease occurs, the diseased leaves should be pruned in time, and ventilation and light should be strengthened to prevent the disease from infecting healthy branches and leaves.

After pruning, spray 800 times of carbendazim for disinfection. For pests such as red spider mites and whiteflies, you can use chlorpyrifos to spray the leaves.

2. Pruning and disinfection

The branches and leaves of osmanthus trees also need to be pruned. Generally, the branches and leaves of osmanthus are pruned into an oval shape to maintain the nutritional balance of each branch and leaf.

Pruning osmanthus also needs to be done in spring and autumn. Pruning osmanthus at this time will not affect its growth at all, and can also greatly increase the survival rate. The wound after pruning needs to be smeared with disinfectant to avoid fungal infection. Generally, methyl thiophanate and carbendazim can be used.
