How to plant and cultivate Cotinus coggygria? Detailed explanation of Cotinus coggygria planting methods and steps

Cotinus coggygria is mainly propagated by sowing, usually in spring when the climate is mild, which is conducive to the plant's rooting and germination, and the survival rate is higher. Note that a warm environment must be provided after sowing and planting, so that the seedlings will be ready in 2-3 weeks.

Cotinus coggygria planting method

1. Seed treatment

The fruits of Cotinus coggygria mature around June and July. After the fruits are ripe, the seeds can be collected and stored in wet sand for 40 to 60 days before sowing. The seedlings are not resistant to low temperatures and need to be covered with leaves and straw before winter to protect them from the cold. The seeds can also be stored in sand over the winter after collection and sown in the spring of the following year.

2. Land preparation

Cotinus coggygria is suitable for planting in loam with high terrain, fertile, loose soil and good air permeability. Apply sufficient base fertilizer when preparing the land. The seedbed should be 12 meters wide. Use carbendazim to disinfect the soil 3-4 days before sowing to eliminate insect eggs and bacteria, and fill the soil with sufficient water.

3. Seeding technology

Cotinus coggygria is usually sown in spring from late March to early April. Dig furrows with a row spacing of 33 cm, mix the seeds and sand evenly, and sow them in the furrows. Use 6-7 kg of seeds per mu, cover with a layer of 1.5-2 cm of soil, press lightly and cover with plastic film. Generally, the seedlings will emerge 2-3 weeks after sowing.

Key points for planting Cotinus coggygria

Watering should be controlled within one month after the seedlings of Cotinus coggygria emerge from the soil. The number of watering should be reduced as much as possible without causing drought damage. After one month, watering can be done every 10-15 days. Watering should be properly controlled in the later period to facilitate the growth of the seedlings and overwintering. Pay attention to timely drainage during the rainy season to avoid water accumulation.
