How to prune branches and leaves of Schefflera chinensis? Pruning and shaping methods (pictures)

Schefflera is suitable for pruning in winter. After the arrival of winter, Schefflera enters a dormant period. It is necessary to cut off all useless branches such as dead branches, rotten branches, diseased branches and leaves, old branches, weak branches, etc., and shorten the healthy and thick branches and leaves that grow too densely. Then clean the potting soil, and the roots also need to be pruned in time to ensure the overall growth of the plant and balanced nutrition.

How to prune branches of Schefflera

1. Bud stage

Spring is the period of budding and growth of Schefflera arborvitae. It is necessary to pinch and prune it to prevent the top branches from growing rapidly during the budding period, which will make it impossible to sprout new branches. When Schefflera arborvitae grows to a certain height, the tops of the branches and leaves on the main plant should be cut off, which will help the sprouting of new branches.

2. Growth period

When the Schefflera oleracea grows to a certain size, its roots are prone to rot, so it needs to be repotted and root pruned. Gently take the Schefflera oleracea out of the pot, clean up the excess soil at the roots, cut off the rotten roots in time, replace them with new soil, water it in small amounts, and allow the thick and healthy roots to grow in it.

Schefflera pruning precautions

The best time to top the Schefflera arborvitae is after the Qingming Festival, when the plant enters the growth period from the dormant period. And be careful not to rush to fertilize it after topping and pruning it. Wait until its pruning wound is dry before applying fertilizer, so as to promote the faster growth of side buds.
