Can fish tank water be used to water flowers?

When raising fish, you need to change the water in the fish tank frequently. It would be a waste if you pour it out directly. The best way is to use it to water the flowers!

1. Adjust soil acidity and alkalinity

The water for raising fish is slightly acidic, with a pH value of around 6, which is beneficial for plants that prefer slightly acidic soil, such as green ivy, pennywort, monstera, white palm, spider plant, daffodil, hyacinth, etc.

2. Provide nutrients and fertilizers

The water in the fish tank contains substances such as nitrates, nitrites, ammonia nitrogen, and fish excrement, which can provide the necessary nutrients for plant growth.

What should you pay attention to when watering flowers with fish tank water?

1. Leave it for a while before watering the flowers

In summer, there is a certain temperature difference between the water in the fish tank and the soil in the potted plants. It is best to leave the water in the fish tank for a day or two and wait until the temperature returns to room temperature before using it to water the flowers to avoid affecting the growth of the plants.

2. Control fertilizer

Fish farming water contains certain nutrients. For plants in their vigorous growth period, it is necessary to reduce fertilization to avoid causing excessive growth.

3. This kind of fish water cannot be used for watering

If disinfectant salt or other fish medicines have been added to the water in the fish tank, do not use it to water the flowers, otherwise it will cause the plants to become dehydrated and dry out.

How to grow flowers and fish at the same time?

1. Container selection

It is best to choose a hydroponic bottle with a planting basket, which has a larger space and a higher water level when adding water, leaving enough space for the fish to move around.

Of course, if you have the conditions, you can buy a larger fish tank equipped with a water circulation pump. It has a large space and can also raise tropical fish, aquatic plants, etc., which has higher ornamental value.

2. Fish selection

Flower farming is the main thing, with fish farming as a supplement. Because space is limited and the oxygen and other nutrients in the water are also limited, you must choose small fish, and the number cannot be too many, 1 to 3 will be enough, otherwise they will not be easy to survive.

3. Plant selection

First of all, the plants grown in water must be non-toxic. Toxic flowers such as the weeping angel are not suitable for growing fish in water. If the juice on the leaves drips into the water, it will not only damage the roots, but also poison the fish. Plants that prefer alkaline environments are also not suitable.

4. Water treatment

The tap water at home must be aired for a day or two before it can be used. The chlorine in the water is not good for fish and plant roots, and can easily cause death. Be sure to change the water frequently in summer to keep the water clean.

5. Stop feeding fish feed

The rotten roots, old roots, residual roots of the hydroponic plants themselves and the original microorganisms in the water are enough for small fish to sustain life. There is no need to feed them, otherwise it will easily pollute the water quality.
