Can the bird of paradise be repotted in summer?

Normally, when caring for a bird of paradise in summer, it is best not to change its pot. Replacing it at this time will not only seriously affect its growth, but also increase the risk of death from dehydration. It is best to do it in spring when the climatic conditions are suitable and the bird of paradise can resume growth faster.

How to repot a bird of paradise

1. Prepare the potting soil: You can prepare the potting soil in advance before repotting the bird of paradise. The flowerpot should be larger and deeper. There are no big requirements for the material. A clay pot or a mud pot will do, but make sure there are drainage holes at the bottom. The substrate for the bird of paradise can be a mixture of leaf mold, sandy soil, and peat soil, mixed with a small amount of fertilizer.

2. Remove the plant from the pot: Do not water the bird of paradise within a few days before removing it from the pot. Keep the soil in the pot dry and loose. Knock on the four sides of the pot, hold the edge of the pot with one hand, take the plant out with the other hand, then shake off the soil on the roots, wash it with water, and trim the dry, diseased, and rotten roots.

3. Planting in pots: first put broken tiles or granular stones at the bottom of the pot, fill in some soil, plant the bird of paradise in the pot, fill it with soil, compact the surrounding soil, water it after planting to keep it moist, and place it in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance.

Things to note when repotting a bird of paradise

1. Suitable environment

After repotting the bird of paradise, you need to move it to a place with scattered light to help the plant adapt to the pot quickly, and ensure that the environment is ventilated to prevent the plant from being infected with diseases. After waiting for 1-2 weeks, you can move the bird of paradise to a bright place and allow it to receive at least 3 hours of light per day.

2. Watering management

Bird of paradise grows best in a humid environment. When raising a bird of paradise, it needs to be watered every 2-3 days. If tap water is used, it should be left to stand in advance. This will promote the healthy growth of the bird of paradise. When the ambient temperature is above 30 degrees, water mist should be sprayed around the bird of paradise.
