Sesame planting and harvesting time

Sesame planting and harvesting time

Sesame planting time

Sesame is suitable for sowing in warm seasons, and can be planted around May. If it is autumn sesame, it can be delayed a little, in early or mid-July. The planting time is also different in different regions. The Huanghuai region starts planting in late April.

Sesame harvest time

There are many varieties of sesame. If it is an early-maturing variety, it will mature in 80-90 days, and the late-maturing variety will mature in 100-120 days. The harvest time of spring sesame is mid-to-late August, the harvest time of summer-sown sesame is early September, and the harvest time of autumn sesame is late September.

Key points for high-yield sesame planting

1. Select a plot of land: Before planting sesame, you need to choose soil with good drainage and rich nutrients. Sandy loam is best, which is more suitable for the growth of sesame. Before planting, you need to plow the soil and do a good job of weeding to avoid weeds and sesame competing for nutrients.

2. Seed treatment: Sesame seeds need to be processed before planting, and seeds with full grains should be selected for planting. First, the selected seeds need to be soaked in warm water. After the seeds have fully absorbed water, they can be planted.

3. Sowing: There are three main ways to sow sesame, namely spot sowing, row sowing and broadcast sowing. Row sowing can effectively control the plant spacing, and broadcast sowing has a faster seedling growth rate, but it is not conducive to field management. The sowing depth needs to be controlled at 2-3 cm, which is conducive to rapid germination of seeds.

4. Post-maintenance: Sesame and seedlings are more afraid of waterlogging after sowing, and drainage work needs to be done well, especially in the rainy season. The moisture in the land needs to be drained in time to avoid water accumulation and keep the soil in a slightly moist state. There also needs to be sufficient light to make the plants grow stronger.
