The best time to plant sugar beets: planting techniques and sowing time

Beet planting time

Sugar beets can only be planted once a year, and the suitable sowing period varies depending on the region. In the Northeast, it is the middle of April, in Inner Mongolia it is the first half of April, and in Xinjiang it is the first half of April. Appropriate early sowing can extend the development period of sugar beets and help increase their sweetness.

Beet growth cycle

Beet is a biennial plant, so its growth cycle is two years. It is sown in the first year and harvested in the second year. According to nutrition, the growth stage of beet can be divided into four periods: seedling stage, rapid leaf growth period, tuber and sugar growth period, and sugar accumulation period.

Methods and steps for growing beets

1. Growth environment

Beets grow well in most containers, and their leaves are dark green and very ornamental, so they can also be grown as potted plants. They like sunny places, so they are suitable for cultivation on the sunny side without affecting their ability to receive light.

2. Planting

Beet seeds germinate relatively slowly, so they can be soaked in warm water for about four hours before sowing. A relatively high temperature is required when sowing beets, and they must not be allowed to freeze, especially when planted in the cold north. Special attention should be paid to this.
