Everyone has tasted the sweetness of sugarcane , but may not be familiar with its planting and seedling raising process. In fact, the sugarcane seedling cultivation process is a novel experience for many people. Do you remember that part of the top of the sugar cane that the seller would discard every time you bought it? It is this inconspicuous part of the sugarcane shoots that is the key material for sugarcane seedling cultivation. Let’s learn about the methods and time of sugarcane seedling cultivation. 1. Sugarcane seedling raising time Sugarcane planting is divided into three periods: spring sowing, autumn sowing and winter sowing: 1. Spring sowing The time is usually from the end of January to mid-March, and this is the main planting method in most parts of our country. Spring-sown sugarcane is harvested from May to mid-July. 2. Autumn sowing The suitable sowing time is from the end of August to the end of September, and autumn-sown sugarcane is harvested in mid-December. 3. Winter sowing The time is from the beginning of winter to the beginning of spring, that is, from November to February of the following year. Note: Generally speaking, when the surface soil temperature reaches above 10 degrees Celsius, you can consider planting. Sugarcane is a thermophilic and light-loving crop with high requirements for sunlight and water. Its cultivation requires an annual accumulated temperature between 5500 and 8500 degrees Celsius and an annual precipitation between 800 and 1200 mm. 2. Sugarcane seedling cultivation method 1. Seedling treatment First, select healthy sugarcane shoots free of pests and diseases as seedlings. Trim away the older leaf sheaths, leaving the tenderer parts, and dry them in the sun for two to three days to reduce moisture and promote drying of the seedlings. 2. Seed soaking The seedlings can be soaked in clean water or lime water . Soaking seeds in clean water means soaking the whole bundle of sugarcane seedlings in clean water for one to two days; soaking seeds in lime water means soaking the seedlings in lime water for twelve to twenty-four hours to disinfect and promote germination. 3. Germination The commonly used methods for germinating sugarcane are stacking method and composting method. The stacking method is to pile the seedlings together and use their own heat to raise the temperature inside the pile to promote germination. The composting method is to spread a layer of farm manure in a sunny place, then place seedlings and farm manure alternately, stack three or four layers, and cover them with straw or plastic film to keep warm. 4. Field management When the sugarcane seedlings grow five or six true leaves, fertilization and soiling should be carried out. That is, dig trenches beside the sugarcane seedlings and apply appropriate amounts of urea, compound fertilizer and potassium fertilizer deeply, and add soil to a depth of 13 to 17 cm based on the growth of the sugarcane seedlings. The above is an introduction to some key points of sugarcane seedling cultivation. In fact, sugarcane seedling cultivation is also the key to achieving high yield in sugarcane planting. Everyone should make appropriate choices based on the regional environment.
