Time and method of cuttings of Chlorophytum comosum

Goldfish Chlorophytum cutting time

If you want to propagate a pot of goldfish spider plant by cuttings, you must first pay attention to the time of cuttings. It is best to do it during the growing season, and the best time is at the turn of spring and summer, because the moisture and temperature are suitable at this time, which is conducive to the rooting of the cuttings. If you do it in midsummer, the branches will easily rot.

How to propagate the goldfish plant by cuttings

1. Cutting branches

The branches of the goldfish spider plant for cuttings should be neither too tender nor too old. Generally, two-year-old branches are the best. Keep 10-15 cm of the branches, remove all the leaves at the base, keep 3-4 leaves on the top, and then use a knife to cut the base into an inclined shape. Then soak it in a diluted rooting agent solution for 4-6 hours before cutting.

2. Cutting medium

Goldfish spider plant can be planted on pure river sand, which has good drainage, but it must be kept moist without water accumulation. After disinfecting the substrate in advance, the branches soaked in rooting agent can be cut into the sand bed. Note that a distance of 3-5 cm should be maintained between the cuttings to avoid damage to the root system during transplanting.

Maintenance of Chlorophytum comosum after cutting

After cuttings, the goldfish plant should be placed in a warm, cool, well-ventilated place. The ambient temperature should be above 20 degrees. This can speed up rooting. In addition, it is necessary to water it in time to keep the substrate slightly moist, but the amount of water should not be too large to avoid water accumulation.
