What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Luohan bamboo?

Introduction of Luohan Bamboo

Luo Han bamboo is a plant of the Poaceae family. Young stalks are dark green with a light white powder on them, which turn olive yellow when old. The height of the stalks is 7-10 meters. The stalks that grow poorly are usually 25-50 centimeters. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate, glabrous, round or ovate to sickle-shaped. The main methods of reproduction are cuttings and division.

How to cultivate Luo Han bamboo

Luo Han bamboo likes warm, humid, sunny and well-ventilated environment, but should avoid strong light. It is not cold-resistant and should grow in fertile, loose, moist and well-drained sandy loam. When planted indoors, it should be placed in a place with sufficient light. When the sun is scorching in summer, it should be properly shaded. Water it every day to keep the soil in the pot moist, and keep it warm in winter.

Watering method

Luohan bamboo likes a humid environment, but is afraid of waterlogging. Do not water it too much, otherwise the roots will rot. When the air is dry, spray water on the leaves. If the potting soil lacks water, the bamboo leaves will curl. Water it once every 1-2 days in summer and try to water it less in winter, but make sure the potting soil is moist.

Fertilization method

When planting potted bamboo, you can apply decomposed organic fertilizer, and apply appropriate topdressing after the bamboo takes root. Pay attention to the principle of applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently, and apply 0.5% urea or 1.0% compound fertilizer in water in spring and summer.

Pruning methods

When the new bamboo shoots are about 10 cm unearthed, they can be shelled to control the height of the plant and shorten it to a small bamboo of about 30 cm. During the growth period, dense branches, overlapping branches, crossed branches and unsightly branches can be cut off, and bamboo shoots that grow too long should be shortened to promote side branches and improve the overall aesthetics.

Things to note when growing Luo Han bamboo

The common pests of potted Podocarpus include aphids, scale insects, etc., which can be sprayed with DDT emulsion or Dimethoate emulsion. Common diseases include sooty mold and witches' broom disease. Management should be strengthened, diseased plants should be pruned in time, and burned in batches. If the temperature is high, they need to be moved to a semi-shaded and ventilated place, spray water appropriately to keep them moist, and take measures to keep warm in winter.
