When and how to repot camellia

Camellia repotting time

The recommended time to repot camellia is between the winter solstice and the Qingming Festival. Repotting at this time can not only greatly reduce root damage, but also ensure a high survival rate, allowing sufficient time to acclimate the pots and reduce growth impacts.

Camellia repotting methods and steps

1. Remove the plant from the pot : When removing the plant from the pot, first use a small shovel to draw a circle along the inner wall of the pot, or tap the outer wall of the pot gently, both of which can make the potting soil easier to separate. Then turn the pot upside down, hold the rhizome, and carefully take it out.

2. Prune the roots : first dig out the camellia, shake off the soil around the roots, then use clean water to clean the roots of the plant, then cut off the dead and rotten roots, then use diluted carbendazim to disinfect and sterilize, and finally dry the roots.

3. Prepare the potting soil : Prepare a larger flower pot with good air permeability. Choose new soil that is soft, fertile and well-drained. You can mix leaf mold and garden soil thoroughly, and disinfect it before use.

4. Plant in a pot : Place the camellia in the middle of the prepared soil, fill it with soil after the roots are expanded, compact the soil lightly, water the soil to help it take root, and finally place it in a cool place.

Camellia care after repotting

After repotting the camellia, it must be placed in a cool, ventilated environment, away from direct sunlight. After potting, water it thoroughly once. After it is completely adapted to the pot, slowly increase the light and provide normal fertilizer and water. In addition, if the maintenance environment is suitable, it will resume growth in about ten days.
