Is ivy a shade or sun-loving plant?

Does ivy prefer shade or sun?

Ivy is a shade-loving vine. Although it can grow in full-sun conditions, moderate shade is more helpful for plant development. If it is exposed to strong sunlight for a long time, it will affect the photosynthesis of the plant, reduce the synthesis of nutrients, and cause its growth to slow down.

Ivy basking in the sun

Ivy flower light requirements: Ivy is not very demanding on light, and it can grow well under semi-light conditions. In spring and autumn, letting ivy see more sunlight in the morning and evening is conducive to the normal growth of ivy and bright green leaves, but still pay attention to avoid direct strong light.

Ivy flowers can be exposed to the sun and are not afraid of it. Ivy can be exposed to the sun, but the recommended temperature is around 25 degrees. Otherwise, if the temperature is too high, the leaves will easily fade, and in severe cases, they will get burned.

Ivy Growth Habit

The most suitable growth temperature for ivy is 25 degrees Celsius indoors. If the temperature is below zero or above 35 degrees Celsius, ivy will directly enter a dormant state. When ivy enters dormancy, it is necessary to immediately find a shade net to block the strong sunlight and achieve cooling.

As a climbing plant, ivy likes to survive by clinging to other plants or city walls. It often grows and climbs on rocks in the backyards of city walls, forest paths, and wild mountains. Ivy is often found in old Beijing courtyards.
