What are the cultivation methods and precautions for Cymbidium orchids?

Cymbidium orchid growth habits

Cymbidium orchid prefers a warm, humid, well-ventilated and sunny environment. The suitable temperature for its growth is 10℃ to 25℃. The temperature difference between day and night should be above 8℃. The most suitable temperature during the flowering period is 8℃ to 15℃. If the temperature is below 3 degrees, the flowers are prone to frost damage, the buds turn yellow and cannot bloom.

Cymbidium orchid cultivation method

1. Flower soil

Large-flowered Cymbidium likes to grow in flower soil that is rich in organic matter and has good drainage. You can use leaf mold directly, or you can add some fern roots, mosses and other materials to the peat soil as its flower soil.

2. Lighting

When the large-flowered Cymbidium is growing faster, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light and try to place it in a place with bright scattered light. However, it is necessary to shade it in the summer because the light intensity at this time is relatively high and it is easy to burn the leaves.

3. Temperature

Large-flowered Cymbidium prefers a growing environment with moderate temperature. The normal maintenance temperature is best within 15-25 degrees, which can make it grow faster. In addition, when it produces flower buds, the temperature difference between day and night is controlled at 10-15 degrees, so that more flower buds can grow.

4. Watering

Large-flowered Cymbidium likes a humid environment, so make sure to give it enough water. Water it in the morning and evening in summer, and control watering in winter. The water temperature should not be too low, but should be consistent with the room temperature. This can reduce the occurrence of frost damage. In addition, it likes slightly acidic water, so it is best to adjust the pH of the water to around 6.5.

Precautions for the maintenance of cymbidium

The growth rate of Cymbidium is relatively fast. When the plant grows larger, it needs to be replaced with a larger pot, which is more conducive to its growth. When repotting, the rotten and old roots should be trimmed, which can reduce the consumption of nutrients and promote the vigorous growth of Cymbidium.
