Strawberry planting methods and management techniques

Strawberry planting methods and management techniques

Strawberry is well-known for its high economic value and edible value and is widely loved by consumers. Although there are various ways to cultivate strawberries, including open field cultivation, protected cultivation and soilless cultivation, the basic principles and key points of management are the same regardless of the method used. Let’s learn about strawberry planting methods and management techniques.

1. Preparation before planting

1. Plot selection

Choose loose, fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral or slightly acidic pH between 5.8 and 7.0.

2. Apply basal fertilizer

Apply sufficient high-quality organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer as base fertilizer, 4,000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, plus 50 kg of slow-release ternary compound fertilizer .

3. Land preparation and ridge making

The tillage depth should be controlled at 15 to 20 cm to ensure that the roots can absorb nutrients well. The ridge height should be 30 to 35 cm, and the bed surface should be compacted to prevent collapse.

2. Planting of seedlings

Seedling treatment: Remove old leaves before planting and retain 2 to 3 new leaves to reduce water evaporation and increase survival rate.

Disinfection and sterilization: Disinfection should be carried out before planting, and the roots and rhizomes should be sprayed with agents such as Bacillus subtilis to prevent diseases.

Root dipping treatment: Dip the roots in sodium naphthylacetate solution to promote rooting and increase the survival rate.

Planting time: August to mid-August is the best time, avoid high temperatures, and choose sunny days in the morning and evening for planting.

Planting method: plant spacing is 15 to 20 cm, row spacing is 20 to 25 cm, and ensure that the seedlings have their backs arched towards the edge of the ridge.

Watering for planting: Water thoroughly after planting to promote seedling growth. Dry the seedlings properly after 4 to 5 days and keep them appropriately moist.

3. Daily Management

Cover the greenhouse to keep warm: When the temperature is low, cover the greenhouse in time to control the temperature and humidity inside the greenhouse to promote growth.

Humidity control: Keep the relative humidity of the air in the greenhouse below 70% and ventilate at appropriate times.

Light management: Maintain light intensity at around 15,000 lux and clean the greenhouse film regularly.

Water management: Water every 5 to 8 days depending on soil moisture.

Fertilization: Apply foliar fertilizer 30 days after planting, and spray fertilizer on the leaves in combination with watering later.

Leaf pruning: Remove old leaves in time to promote the growth of new leaves. Remove early flower buds, retain strong buds, and improve the quality of flowers and fruits.

Assisted pollination: Artificial assisted pollination is used to improve fruit quality and yield.

Fruit thinning: Remove deformed fruits, diseased and insect-infested fruits, and small fruits, and keep healthy fruits.

Apply fruit-promoting fertilizer: Apply balanced ternary compound fertilizer to promote fruit growth.

4. Harvest in time

The fruits are harvested when they are 80% to 90% ripe, avoiding high temperature periods to ensure fruit quality.

The above are the main points of strawberry planting . It is mainly based on protected cultivation. If these management measures are taken regularly, good results can be achieved in strawberry planting.
