When and how to plant chicory

Chicory planting time

Chicory is usually sown from late July to mid-August every year. It is not very cold-resistant and has a low drought tolerance, so its seeds are dormant and can be sown in the year of seed collection. If the maintenance and management are in place, the yield will be quite good.

How to grow chicory

1. Site selection and land preparation: When sowing chicory, generally choose loose and fertile land, apply sufficient organic fertilizer in combination with land preparation, then make ridges and water thoroughly.

2. Planting: When sowing chicory, the seeds need to be evenly spread in the furrow and covered with fine soil. A layer of plastic film should be added on the surface of the bed for insulation.

3. Field management: After sowing, chicory will sprout in about 7-8 days. The roots of the newly emerged seedlings are relatively weak, so they must be watered in time to keep them moist, and the soil must be loosened to inhibit the evaporation of soil moisture.

Things to note when planting chicory

During the maintenance period of chicory, you need to pay attention to the fact that it has a relatively high demand for fertilizer and water. During the growing period, topdressing is needed according to its growth conditions. It prefers a cool climate environment, so high temperatures should be avoided and the temperature needs to be kept at around 20 degrees.
