When and how to plant ornamental sunflowers

Sunflower Planting Time

Ornamental sunflowers prefer a warm environment and are usually sown between April and June. The higher the temperature within the appropriate range, the easier it is for them to germinate. They usually germinate 10-15 days after planting. They grow very fast and can bloom in summer.

How to plant ornamental sunflowers

1. Seed selection: When planting ornamental sunflowers, choose sunflower seeds with small plants, and pay attention to selecting mature and fuller seeds.

2. Sowing: Sowing can be done when the ambient temperature is around 20 degrees. Wrap the seeds with moistened gauze in advance. They will germinate in 2-3 days. When sowing, plant the pointed end of the seed in the soil, cover it with a thin layer of soil, spray water with a watering can to keep the soil moist, and then place it in a sunny place for maintenance.

3. Transplanting: Wait until the sunflower has grown 5 true leaves before transplanting. Prepare a larger flowerpot in advance and put slightly acidic to neutral sandy soil with good drainage and air permeability in it. You can add some compost to increase the nutrients in the soil and plant the sunflower seedlings in the pot.

Things to note when planting ornamental sunflowers

Ornamental sunflowers prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight and are suitable for growing in sunny places. If the environment is dark and there is no sunlight, they may grow slowly or stop growing. In addition, in the later maintenance process, they need to be watered and fertilized in time to meet the growth needs of sunflowers, so that it will grow faster and better, and the flowers will look better.
