Cultivation methods and precautions of Torreya grandis

Cultivation methods and precautions of Torreya grandis

1. Maintenance methods

1. Light: Torreya grandis grows well in places with weak sunlight and prefers cool and shady places where it will thrive. To avoid direct sunlight, it needs shade. You can build a shade shed. Too strong light is not conducive to its growth.

2. Water: Be sure to water frequently to keep the plant sufficiently hydrated. Especially in the hot summer, it needs frequent watering. It is better to plant it in places with sufficient rainfall, as lack of water will affect its survival rate.

3. Soil: Torreya grandis does not have high requirements for soil and can be planted in any type of soil. It generally needs to grow in fertile and loose soil, and can even survive in red soil, sand (stone, gravel), gray soil, and rock cracks.

4. Temperature: It is very cold-resistant. It is afraid of high temperatures in summer and frostbite in winter. We must do a good job of anti-freeze and heat preservation. The minimum temperature must not be lower than -15℃.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Sowing: You can store the seeds in sand to ensure normal humidity, not too dry or too wet. Wait until the seeds sprout and then sow them.

2. Summer: The temperature is relatively high in summer, so it needs shade and light. During the rainy season, the roots are prone to rot. At this time, it is necessary to remove the diseased roots to prevent the infection from spreading to other good branches.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Pests: Common pests include termites, moths, gall mites, and rust snails. Adjust the pesticide concentration according to the time when these pests and diseases invade, grow and reproduce, and then spray according to the time.

2. Pruning: If the plant grows too tall, it needs to be pruned frequently. The height of the crown can be controlled at 4-5m, and the crown width should be kept multi-trunk and round-headed. After the crown of the tree is shaped, regular pruning is required every year. At this time, you only need to cut off the dense branches and diseased and dead branches.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown indoors? It is a tree and tends to grow too tall, so it is not suitable for indoor maintenance. If there is more space in the yard, you can choose to plant it in the yard.

2. Is it poisonous: It is non-toxic and can be touched with confidence. Moreover, the fruits that grow are very beautiful and are especially good when planted in the yard.
