Can onions be grown hydroponically?

Scallions can be grown hydroponically, but soil cultivation is more suitable for scallions than hydroponics. The soil contains a large amount of trace elements and fertilizers, and the roots of scallions are easier to absorb nutrients, so they grow healthier and have better quality.

Methods and key points of hydroponic cultivation of shallots

1. The water quality requirements for hydroponic shallots are very particular. It is recommended to use mountain spring water, stream water or rainwater. If there is no such water source, you can use clean water that has been exposed to the sun for half a day instead, because these types of water are rich in minerals and trace elements, which have a good effect on the cultivation and development of shallots.

2. Cut the roots of the green onions and the green parts, tie them together with a rope or something like that, and place them in containers of similar size. It is best to choose transparent containers to facilitate observation of the water level.

3. In the first three days of cultivating shallots, appropriate nutrient solution should be added to supplement the nutrition. The water level should be controlled at half of the shallots, and some sand can be added appropriately.

Precautions for growing shallots in water

1. When growing green onions hydroponically, you should avoid using tap water, because the minerals and trace elements in tap water have been filtered out and there is no nutrient to absorb. Change the water about once every week.

2. Keep it ventilated and preferably place it in a location with diffused light so that the onion leaves can grow healthily without being infested with insects.
