Is Camellia a shade or sun-loving plant?

Does Camellia prefer shade or sun?

Camellia is a plant that prefers semi-shade. The plant does not particularly like sunlight and is most afraid of direct sunlight. However, the maintenance environment cannot be too shaded for a long time, otherwise it will cause the plant's leaves to be thin and the flowers to be few, seriously affecting its ornamental value.

Camellia basking in the sun

Camellia does not have very high requirements for light. Except for the need for appropriate shading in the summer, it should be placed in a well-lit location in other seasons to allow the plant to fully receive scattered light.

Camellias can be exposed to the sun, but not directly in the summer because the temperature is too high and the leaves can easily be burned. However, in spring, autumn and winter, the plants can be exposed to direct sunlight to better carry out photosynthesis.

Camellia growth habits

Camellia likes high temperature and high humidity, and prefers a semi-shady environment with good air circulation, warmth and humidity. The suitable temperature for the plant's growth is 20-32℃. It has a certain degree of cold resistance, and the environmental humidity should be above 70%. It likes acidic soil.

Camellia cannot be kept indoors all the time. Although the plant likes shade, it cannot be completely without light. It needs to slowly increase the light during maintenance. It can be placed on a balcony with sufficient scattered light.
