Common diseases and prevention methods of Monstera

Common diseases of Monstera include gray spot and rust. The main harm is to the leaves, which appear gray-brown spots or rust, affecting the appearance.

Monstera gray spot

Symptoms

Gray mold mainly occurs on leaves. In the early stage, the pathogen invades through the wounds on the leaf edges, and gray-brown spots appear on the leaves with black-brown edges. In the later stage, the spots become connected, rot and dry up. The leaves produce sparse black particles, which are the conidiophores of the pathogen.

Prevention and treatment methods

Once spots are found on the leaves, they can be removed and burned to prevent infection of other plants.

When the disease occurs, spray 1000 times diluted 70% thiophanate-methyl or 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim for killing.

When the plants are infected with gray mold, you should also pay attention to insect prevention. If insect pests and diseases occur at the same time, the damage to the plants will be more serious.

Monstera rust

Symptoms

In the early stage of the disease, needle-shaped yellow spots appear on both sides of the leaves, and then gradually expand into light brown or brick-red blisters. The blisters spread and crack, releasing rusty powder. Light rust spots may appear on leaves, while severe rust spots may cover the entire leaf surface, causing partial or entire leaves to turn yellow, and eventually wither and fall off, weakening the growth of the plant. Rust not only harms the leaves of the plant, but also infects the stems, producing symptoms similar to those on the leaves.

Rust disease often occurs in the south, and the disease is more serious when the plants are placed too densely and the humidity is high.

Prevention and treatment methods

Strengthen maintenance and remove diseased leaves in time when found.

In the early stage of the disease, spray 1500 times diluted 20% triadimefon emulsifiable concentrate or 1500 times diluted 25% triadimefon wettable powder. Spray 3 to 4 times continuously for effective results.
