Should Dendrobium be dried before cutting?

Should Dendrobium be dried before cutting?

1. Does it need to be dried?

Whether the Dendrobium needs to be completely dried before cuttings depends on the situation. If the cuttings are done immediately, there is no need to dry them in the sun for too long, as long as there is no dripping water from the cut. If you wait until next spring for cuttings, you need to dry them in the sun for a while to ensure that no juice drips from the cut. It is better if they are slightly hardened. Remove some water from the entire stem to ensure the survival rate of the cuttings and prevent them from rotting in the substrate. It is especially important to note that when drying, it must be placed in a cool and ventilated place, and not exposed to the sun. Otherwise, the entire stem will dry out, and it will be more difficult to propagate after it loses activity and moisture.

2. Cutting method

1. Harvesting stems: When it is mature for harvesting, cut the annual stems from the fully grown plants. It is best to ensure that they are growing vigorously, full of nutrients, and have not bloomed. The length does not need to be too long, as long as it is 4-5 cm. Keep one bud on each stem segment.

2. Prepare the substrate: When choosing this material, it must first be breathable, ensure sufficient permeability, and be able to drain excess water smoothly.

3. Carry out cuttings: Insert the treated branches, then gently press the substrate tightly and maintain the temperature at around 20 degrees, which can increase the possibility of rooting.
