How to grow camellia so that it blooms

Camellia flowering time

Camellias usually bloom in winter and spring, generally starting to bloom in November each year and continuing until around March of the following spring. The blooming time is not fixed and depends on the climatic conditions of the planting site. The climate in the south is warmer and may bloom around October, while the blooming time in the north may be delayed and may bloom in December.

Camellia cultivation and flowering method

1. Suitable soil

Camellias grow vigorously and bloom in large numbers in suitable soil. They are best planted in loose, fertile sandy soil with good drainage and a pH value that is not too high; it is better to keep the soil acidic.

2. Provide light

Camellia is a sun-loving plant and needs sufficient light during its growth period. It is also a long-day plant and needs more than 12 hours of sunshine a day. Especially in winter, it can be maintained in full light. The sunlight in summer is too strong and shade measures need to be taken.

3. Temperature requirements

Camellia likes a warm environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 18-25 degrees. It is not resistant to high temperatures. The summer temperature should not exceed 35 degrees, otherwise the leaves will wither and turn yellow. It is necessary to keep warm in winter, preferably above 5 degrees. If the surrounding temperature is low, it needs to be moved indoors in time.

4. Reasonable watering

Camellia likes a humid environment and has a demand for water. It needs to be watered according to its growth, but not too much water, otherwise it will cause root rot. The temperature in winter is lower and the growth is slow, so the demand for water is not large, so there is no need to water too much and the water content needs to be controlled well.

5. Apply fertilizer

Camellia is a fertilizer-loving plant. It is necessary to apply sufficient base fertilizer when planting. In the later growth period, additional fertilizer should be applied according to the growth of the plant to ensure the nutrient needs. Pay attention to the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently, and do not apply concentrated fertilizers or raw fertilizers.
