How long does it take for blueberries to bear fruit?

Blueberry planting results after several years

Blueberry is a shrub plant that is cold-resistant but not heat-resistant. The plant has strict soil requirements for growth and the ambient temperature must be between 15-25℃. This crop can be planted in the other three seasons except winter. The main producing areas are Heilongjiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia and other regions.

It takes 2-3 years for blueberries to bear fruit after being planted, but their fruit-bearing ability is poor at the beginning. It usually takes 5 years to enter the peak fruit-bearing period. Potted blueberries can bloom and bear fruit in small quantities in the second year.

Reasons why blueberries do not bear fruit

1. There are many varieties of blueberries. Some varieties have a low self-pollination rate. If there is no pollination tree, it is difficult for the plant to bear fruit.

2. Blueberries are very light-loving and have a high demand for light during their growth. If there is a lack of light in the environment, the growth of the plants will be greatly affected, and the plants will not be able to bear fruit.

Blueberry planting techniques and key points

1. Land preparation

After the garden site is selected, it is necessary to carry out deep plowing to press green manure, with a depth of about 20-25 cm being appropriate. If there are many weeds in the environment, it is necessary to spray herbicides one year in advance, which will be more conducive to the growth of the plants.

2. Water and fertilizer management

After planting, blueberries need to be watered in time to keep the soil slightly moist. Acidic water should be applied once every 50 days to acidify the soil. Chlorine-containing fertilizers should not be used when fertilizing.
