How to take rose cuttings

How to take rose cuttings

During the process of rose propagation by cuttings, first prepare a cup filled with soil, then use a small wooden stick to poke a hole suitable for rose cuttings. After inserting the cuttings, compact the soil slightly, leaving a portion of the cuttings exposed. Then sprinkle some water in the flowerpot, and wait until the roots of the rose grow to the bottom of the cup before transplanting it into the new pot with soil.

Rose cutting time

The best time for rose cuttings is generally in spring and autumn each year, more specifically in February-March and July-August, because the temperature and humidity at this time are most suitable for rose growth. However, be careful not to do cuttings after heavy rain, as this will be detrimental to the rooting and germination of roses.

Rose cutting method

If you want a high survival rate for rose cuttings, you must first choose healthy and full branches as the mother plant for cuttings. Then use sterilized scissors to cut, and then trim the cut branches into a smooth oblique cut. This will be more conducive to its survival. Generally speaking, the best length of the branches is about five to fifteen centimeters.

Rose cutting rooting

If you want the rose to take root quickly after cuttings, you need to prepare the substrate soil for cuttings. It is best to prepare a pot of loose and breathable sand in advance. After disinfecting the sand, water the entire pot thoroughly. Then you can apply some rooting powder on the bottom of the prepared branches, insert it shallowly into the soil, keep the surrounding environment ventilated and cool, and it will take root after about half a month.
