When is the best time to apply fertilizer to sesame

Sesame topdressing time

Sesame can be top-dressed during the seedling stage, growth period and fruiting period. Timely top-dressing can replenish nutrients in time and make it grow better. It is generally more appropriate to apply top dressing during the budding period.

Sesame topdressing fertilizer

Seedling stage: Since too much nitrogen fertilizer applied at the bottom can easily make the seedlings grow vigorously and form tall seedlings, only some nitrogen fertilizer is generally used as bottom fertilizer during the sesame seedling stage. When the seedlings are in poor condition or the seedlings vary greatly in size, a small amount of seedling fertilizer can be applied first. Diluted and decomposed human feces or urea will have a better effect. Since the roots of sesame are shallow at this time, fertilizer should be applied shallowly during the day.

Bud stage: This period is the period of flower bud differentiation. The vegetative growth and reproductive growth of sesame proceed simultaneously. Topdressing is most effective. Topdressing is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Flowering period: Sesame grows fastest during the flowering period, and the nutrients absorbed during this period account for 70% to 80% of the entire growth period. In order to meet the needs of plant growth and development, make sesame grow vigorously, accumulate more photosynthetic products, increase the number of flower capsules, stabilize growth in the later period, and make the grains full and plump, it is necessary to re-apply flower fertilizer. At this time, lateral roots begin to form in large numbers, the root absorption capacity is enhanced, the plant growth rate is accelerated, and the demand for nutrients increases significantly. Fertilization is convenient, and mature cake fertilizer, manure fertilizer, and manure fertilizer can also be applied.

Growing period: During the growing period of sesame, topdressing is most effective when the flower buds are differentiating. Nitrogen fertilizer should be used as the main fertilizer, supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Boron fertilizer should be applied in areas where boron is deficient.

Methods of topdressing for high yield of sesame

1. When applying topdressing to sesame, it should be applied on the furrows about 10 cm away from the sesame plants or applied in a 10 cm soil layer to facilitate root absorption, and then covered with soil;

2. According to the test, for the same fertilizer per mu, shallow application (10-13 cm) increases yield by about 11% compared with deep application (25 cm). When sowing, the decomposed cake fertilizer or granular urea can be mixed with the soil and then covered with loose soil. When the weather is dry, water should be sprayed after application to give full play to the fertilizer effect.
