Best time to plant prunes

The best time to cultivate prune seedlings is in early October each year. At this time, the climate is cool, the environmental humidity is high, and the soil moisture is difficult to evaporate, which can reduce water loss and increase the survival rate of plum seedlings.

How to grow prunes

Planting: Plum orchards should be planted in areas with deep soil, rich organic matter and slightly acidic soil pH between 5.5 and 7.5. The proposed orchard must have sufficient irrigation water, and the water must not contain too much salt to avoid affecting the quality of the prunes.

Rootstock selection: Wild apricot, wild peach and hairy cherry can all be used as prune rootstocks to graft different varieties for reproduction. Different rootstocks have their own characteristics.

Precautions for prune planting and management

1. When planting prunes, you should also pay attention to the control of water and fertilizer. If this aspect is not well grasped, even the best preparations will be wasted.

2. After planting plum blossoms, in addition to the base fertilizer, top dressing should be applied at least three times a year. The first time is during the flowering period. Fertilization can promote flowering. Urea is mainly used, with a small amount of potassium fertilizer. The second time is when the fruit is enlarged. This time, potassium fertilizer is used. Potassium fertilizer can promote fruit enlargement, and an appropriate amount of foliar fertilizer and a small amount of urea need to be sprayed to prevent branch aging. The third time is after the harvest, mainly with compost, which plays a good maintenance role for the plum blossoms so as not to affect next year's yield.
