How to care for boxwood in winter

Is boxwood afraid of freezing?

Boxwood has a wide adaptability to temperature and is resistant to both high and low temperatures. It can withstand temperatures above 20 degrees and can also endure temperatures of more than ten degrees below zero. It is not afraid of freezing.

Therefore, when we enter the cold winter, we can paint the tree trunks white, or tie them with straw ropes to keep them warm, cover the ground with plastic film or straw mats, and build windbreak walls or greenhouses with plastic sheets to enhance their ability to resist cold weather.

How to care for boxwood in winter

It needs proper light every day, at least 3-5 hours of light time, to promote photosynthesis and promote the growth of the plant. It is cold-resistant, so after receiving light, put it in a cool and ventilated place. Water it thoroughly at one time, do not water it in multiple times, and regularly prune the excessive growth.

1. Control the temperature

As the temperature drops, boxwood potted plants are not suitable for outdoor maintenance. They can be moved to a sunny place indoors. The indoor temperature needs to be above 8 degrees so that the plants will not be frostbitten.

2. Lighting

The sunlight in winter is very mild and the light intensity is very low, so you can get full sun exposure and more sun exposure, with more than 6 hours of light per day.

3. Water and fertilizer

Boxwood grows very slowly in winter and has little demand for water and fertilizer, so you can reduce watering and keep the soil dry. The watering temperature needs to be consistent with the room temperature, and fertilizing should be suspended.

Precautions for boxwood cultivation in winter

1. Before bringing boxwood indoors in winter, it should be sterilized and disinfected in time to prevent the impact of diseases and pests.

2. The light intensity in winter is low and relatively mild. If the outdoor temperature is high, boxwood can receive full sunlight appropriately.
