Crape myrtle cutting time

Crape myrtle is usually propagated by cuttings when the branches sprout in spring from March to April. Choose one-year-old branches with good lignification and no diseases or insect pests. If the branches have sufficient nutrients, the cuttings will be successful easily.

Simple method of cuttings of crape myrtle

The matrix for inserting crape myrtle is yellow mud and perlite. Before insertion, disinfect it with 1000 times of 75% thiophanate methyl liquid. Before insertion, insert a stick with the same thickness as the ear into the hole, and the depth is one-third of the ear. After insertion, compact the soil with your fingers and water it.

Rooting method of crape myrtle cuttings

The cutting depth of crape myrtle is 3-4cm. Water it after insertion and shade it with a shady shed. It usually takes about 20 days to take root. Remove the film, leave the shady net, and water it in time. When the branches grow to about 60-80 cm, the survival rate is very high.

Before the crape myrtle cuttings sprout new buds, you can remove the plastic film and gradually allow the branches to receive light. After 2 months, start applying appropriate amounts of fertilizers and provide proper nutrient transport so that the crape myrtle branches can grow after being inserted.

One month after the crape myrtle is grafted, lift the branches gently with your hands, and spray the cuttings with water once a day. Generally, if you feel a firm feeling about 40 days after grafting, it means that the cuttings have taken root.
