What is Perilla?

Perilla is a vegetable whose stems, leaves and fruits are edible. It belongs to the genus Perilla in the Lamiaceae family. In life, it is often called white perilla, red perilla, red perilla, black perilla, etc. It is a summer vegetable and will be available on the market from July to September. The main producing areas are Gansu, Shandong, etc., which have large areas of sandy soil with good drainage.

What does Perilla look like?

The leaves of Perilla are purple-red all over, which is a very rare color in the plant kingdom. Generally, the plant will grow to about 30 centimeters, and the leaves are 3 centimeters long with fine and soft hairs on the back.

How to make basil

1. Stir-fry

You don’t need to add too many seasonings when stir-frying perilla. Pour oil into the pan, add some chopped green onions after the oil is hot, then pour in the perilla and stir-fry for a few times, then add appropriate amount of salt for seasoning.

2. Make soup

When making perilla soup, you can first put some noodle balls into the hot soup. After a few minutes, when the balls are cooked, add the perilla and cook for a few more minutes. It is best to add an appropriate amount of salt according to your taste.
