How many years does it take for longan grapes to bear fruit?

Introduction to planting longan grapes

Longyan grapes have strong adaptability to the environment and are an ancient cultivated variety in China. They are widely planted from the Loess Plateau to Shandong, and have larger cultivation areas in Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other places in China.

Longan grapes have a long lifespan, living about 150 years. It usually takes seven years for them to produce good quality fruit. After the 40th year, they will enter a senescent period and their yield will slowly decrease. The fruit quality is best between 20 and 40 years old.

Longan grapes have been planted for several years and have produced results

Longan grapes can bear fruit after 2-3 years of planting. They usually bloom in May and June, and bear fruit after 90-100 days, that is, in August and September.

Why don't longan grapes bear fruit?

The reason why longan grapes do not bear fruit may be that they encounter frost damage or strong winds during the flowering period, which affects pollination. In addition, if they are malnourished and the flower buds are difficult to differentiate, the pistil will degenerate and the fruit will not be produced. Without artificial pollination, they will not bear fruit.

Key points for planting longan grapes

1. Choose a planting site: Longan grapes are highly adaptable and like light and warmth. When choosing a planting site, we mainly choose neutral sandy soil. It is best to plant it in loose, fertile, well-drained soil, either flat or sloping.

2. Tillage the land: Longan grapes are generally cultivated on small trellises. I till the soil in advance, dig planting trenches, separate the topsoil and subsoil, apply enough base fertilizer, then fill in the topsoil and water it to make it firm.

3. Fertilizer and water management: When planting longan grapes, apply sufficient base fertilizer. When the seedlings grow to 20 cm, apply nitrogen fertilizer once, and then apply urea once every 15 days, for 4 consecutive times. In August, apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate 3 times. In winter, apply high-quality organic fertilizer and water to prevent cold.

4. Disease control: Longan grapes rarely have diseases and pests, but in a hot, humid and poorly ventilated environment, white rot and black pox are prone to occur, and need to be sprayed with pesticides for prevention and control. Commonly used pesticides include Cobo, Bordeaux mixture, carbendazim, thiram, metalaxyl and other pesticides, which are used alternately.
