Introduction to Poria

Poria, a traditional Chinese medicine, is the dried sclerotium of the Polyporaceae fungus Poria cocos. Its aliases include Poria cocos skin, Poria cocos with skin, red Poria cocos, white Poria cocos, and Poria spirit.

Poria cocos planting conditions

Poria cocos has a strong ability to adapt to the environment. Wild Poria cocos is widely distributed and can grow from 50 meters to 2,800 meters above sea level. However, it is best planted in areas with an altitude of 600-900 meters. It grows mostly in dry, sunny, 10-35 degree slope, slightly acidic sandy loam.

Poria cocos is generally planted at a depth of 50-80 cm. It can absorb nutrients from dead trees to survive and likes to parasitize on the roots of pine trees. It is an aerobic fungus and is suitable for growing in well-ventilated places, otherwise it will cause rot.

Poria cocos planting climate

The growth temperature of Poria cocos mycelium is 18-35℃. It prefers a warm growing environment and is slightly resistant to low temperatures, but not to high temperatures.

Poria cocos planting area

Poria cocos best grows at an altitude of 300-800 meters. It is distributed in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shanxi and other places, and is mainly produced in Anhui, Yunnan and Hubei.

Planting time of Poria cocos

The best time to sow Poria cocos is from May to July, when the temperature and humidity are suitable for its growth.

Benefits of Poria cocos cultivation

The technology of Poria cocos cultivation is already very mature. It mainly uses basswood from pine wood as the culture source. The amount of wood used per mu of land is 6 to 10 tons. 1,800 to 2,000 bags of Poria cocos fungus are needed per mu, and the price of each bag is about 2 yuan. The subsequent field management is relatively easy. Due to different technical levels, the yield of fresh Poria cocos per mu is 1,500-5,000 kilograms.

Calculated based on the market price of 7.5 to 8.5 yuan, farmers invest 9,000 yuan and earn 20,000 to 23,000 yuan per mu, which is a relatively good return.
