Sweet osmanthus is highly ornamental and comes in a variety of varieties. It is generally produced in Guilin, Xianning, Hubei, Suzhou, Jiangsu, and Taoyuan, Hunan. It is native to the eastern section of the Himalayas in southwestern my country and is now widely planted from the Huaihe River basin to the south of the lower reaches of the Yellow River.

Osmanthus growth cycle

Osmanthus flowers grow in shady and moist places in grass on hillsides, roadsides, and sparse woods. The flowering period is from May to September, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

Growth characteristics of osmanthus : Osmanthus trees like a warm environment and are suitable for growing in places with a temperature of 14-28℃. They prefer an environment with sufficient light and are suitable for receiving 6-8 hours of soft light every day. They are suitable for growing in an environment with high relative humidity and in relatively fertile soil.

Osmanthus grows slowly, generally growing 0.8-1.2 cm a year. It blooms from September to October, and its fruit matures from March to April of the following year. When the fruit enters the maturity period and the skin gradually turns from green to purple-black, it can be harvested.

The peak period of flower production for osmanthus trees is when they reach middle age, with the flower production at this time ranging from 50 to 250 kilograms. The production of osmanthus trees will begin to decline after growing to 300 years old.

Temperature management : Osmanthus trees are suitable for growing in areas with an average temperature between 14-28℃. They can grow well when the average temperature in July is between 24-28℃ and the average temperature in January is above 0℃. The lowest temperature they can tolerate is -13℃. Its suitable growth temperature is between 15-28℃.

Fertilization management : During the seedling period of osmanthus, fertilizer should be applied 3 to 4 times a year. In early spring, fertilizer should be applied about every 10-15 days. In autumn, manure fertilizer can be applied once before winter comes to improve its cold resistance. When fertilizing in summer, avoid applying fertilizer at noon or around noon.
