Introduction to Cabbage GrowthCabbage is a herbaceous plant. Its origin is in the area from the Mediterranean to Asia Minor. It is now widely grown in the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. There are edible kale and ornamental kale, but ornamental kale is only distributed in large and medium-sized cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in my country. Cabbage growth cycleCabbage is an annual or biennial plant. It is usually sown in the autumn of the first year and can be used in winter. Cabbage likes to grow in a cool climate, but is very heat-resistant and not water-tolerant. It has strong growth potential, likes sunlight, and prefers relatively fertile soil, with humus-rich fertile sandy loam or clay loam being the most suitable. Cabbage growth rateCabbage goes through two stages from seed germination to flowering and fruiting: vegetative growth and reproductive growth. In the first year, it grows roots, stems, and leaves, and stores a large amount of assimilated products in the leaf balls and shortened stems to complete vegetative growth. After vernalization at low temperatures in winter, it bolts, blooms, and produces seeds in the second year, completing reproductive growth. Growth process : The germination period takes 8 to 15 days in summer and autumn, and 15 to 20 days in winter and spring when the temperature is lower. The seedling period is 30 to 60 days in winter and spring, and 20 to 30 days in summer and autumn. It takes 15 to 20 days for early-maturing varieties and 40 days for late-maturing varieties in the rosette stage, 15 to 50 days for the heading stage, and a dormant period. Cabbage growth cycle managementThe suitable growth temperature for cabbage is between 15-25 degrees. It is a cold-resistant vegetable. If the growth temperature is too high, it is easy to bolt. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 18-25 degrees Celsius. Fertilization management : Cabbage likes fertilizer and is resistant to fertilizer. When fertilizing, organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer should be reasonably applied. When applying fertilizer, follow the principles of controlling nitrogen, stabilizing phosphorus and increasing potassium. Fertilizer distribution should be a combination of base fertilizer and topdressing, and topdressing should be mainly nitrogen fertilizer. |
