What soil is suitable for growing Phalaenopsis?

Phalaenopsis soil

Phalaenopsis prefers acidic soil, and the best soil pH is around 6.5. The soil requirements are loose and fertile, well-drained, and good fertilizer retention. It is best not to use garden soil alone for planting.

Phalaenopsis can be grown in special orchid soil, but it is a typical epiphytic orchid with a well-developed root system. It is best to add some coconut bran to the orchid soil to increase the air permeability of the substrate.

Phalaenopsis soil preparation method

1. Breathable soil

When preparing soil for Phalaenopsis, you can use garden soil, tree bark, coconut shells, etc. in a ratio of 1:1:1. This will create a substrate with good air permeability.

2. Nutrient soil

In addition, Phalaenopsis can also be grown using humus soil, sand, and fine ash in a ratio of 2:1:1, so that the soil has sufficient nutrients.

Phalaenopsis potting soil change

1. Prepare new soil: Phalaenopsis does not have high requirements for soil. It is best to grow in moist soil. You can use leaf mold or peat soil as the substrate.

2. Remove the plant from the pot: Normally, Phalaenopsis orchids need to be repotted and re-soiled every year. Before repotting, water the plant abundantly to allow it to be removed from the pot better and avoid damaging the plant's roots.

3. Re-potting: Before potting, disinfect the roots of the Phalaenopsis, put the newly prepared soil in the pot, and then re-pot the plant.
