When is the best time to prune the weeping crabapple

Pruning effect of weeping begonia

The weeping silk tree is a very good flowering tree species with bright colors and dense flowering. In order to extend the viewing time, you can use the method of rotation pruning to shape the plant into a beautiful shape.

Pruning time for weeping crabapple

Weeping crabapples are generally pruned in spring and summer, and heavy pruning can be performed once during winter dormancy. Generally, pruning is required three times a year.

Propagation of weeping begonia by cutting

We should choose to do it indoors during the Jingzhe season, select some relatively fertile and loose sandy soil, then cut a 12-16 cm side branch from the mother plant, and insert it into the prepared potting soil. The depth of the cutting is generally 1/3 to 1/2 of the branch. After compacting, water it thoroughly and place it in a ventilated and cool place for cultivation.

How to prune weeping begonia

During the winter dormancy period, the weeping crabapple can be heavily pruned to cut off old branches, weak branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, crossed branches, stacked branches, and excessive branches to reduce nutrient consumption, allowing it to survive the winter smoothly and ensure flowering next year.

The weeping crabapple begins to sprout in late April, and the new shoots are about 20 cm long in mid-May. The first pinching can be done, leaving about 15 cm in the lower part to allow it to grow more branches and prepare for the next round of flowering. Other unused branches can be cut off.

The weeping crabapple first blooms in early July. After flowering, cut off the remaining flowers to promote germination and growth. It will sprout third flower branches and will bloom again in early August. After the flowers wither, trim the remaining flowers to promote the sprouting of fourth flower branches. After that, you can trim it multiple times to keep it blooming.

Precautions for pruning weeping begonia

The pruning principle of weeping crabapple is to prune weak branches strongly and strong branches weakly. Prune diseased and insect-infested branches and dead branches in time to avoid too dense branches, promote the sprouting of new branches, make it lush and leafy, and effectively improve its ornamental value. After each pruning, place it in a semi-shaded, well-ventilated environment and slowly prune it.
