Mulberry leaf peony cutting propagation method and precautions

How to propagate peony

Mulberry leaf peony is hibiscus, also known as Buddha hibiscus and hibiscus. It is an evergreen shrub with high ornamental value, large flowers, many colors, and a long flowering period, especially in summer and autumn. It blooms most vigorously. It can be cut in the same year and bloom in the next year. It is very simple to maintain and has become an important indoor flower.

Mulberry leaf peony cutting propagation method

Mulberry leaf peony is often propagated by cuttings, which are carried out from early spring to late autumn. The survival rate is highest if the cuttings are carried out during the rainy season. Cuttings can also be carried out if they are maintained in a greenhouse in winter. The specific cutting method of mulberry leaf peony is as follows:

1. Cuttings: First, choose one-year-old healthy, disease-free mulberry leaf peony branches, about 10 cm in length. You also need to trim off the bottom leaves and leave the top leaves to reduce transpiration.

2. Substrate: Mulberry leaf peony is suitable for planting in well-drained, loose sandy soil or river sand. Before cutting, it needs to be disinfected. It can be disinfected with potassium permanganate solution or 100℃ boiling water. The thickness of the soil needs to be about 15 cm to facilitate the insertion of cuttings.

3. Cuttings: When doing cuttings, you can use chopsticks to poke holes in the soil, and then insert the cuttings into the holes at a depth of 2/5 of the cuttings. After that, water it thoroughly, cover it with a film or glass, and place it in a place with diffuse light for maintenance.

Precautions for cutting mulberry leaf peony

After the mulberry leaf peony is grafted, the soil needs to be kept moist. After it takes root, normal management can be resumed. It can be slowly exposed to the sun, supplemented with light, and watered normally. If the temperature is slightly high in summer, cooling measures need to be taken. Shade can be provided, and water can be sprayed in time to keep it moist. If the temperature is low in winter, cold protection measures need to be taken.
