Sand ginger is usually sown in spring from March to April, not too late, otherwise the high temperature will affect the seed germination rate. June to August is the peak period of sand ginger disease, and the main focus should be on disease and insect pest prevention and control.

Planting Ginger in Spring

Sand ginger is suitable for sowing in spring from March to April, not too late, otherwise the high temperature will affect the seed germination rate. Sand ginger should be planted in dry land, paddy fields and sloping land. The soil requires good drainage and irrigation conditions, fertile and loose.

Planting Ginger in Summer

The best time to plant in summer is mid-June. Planting requires a warm climate, long sunshine hours and abundant rainfall. June to August is hot and humid, which is the peak period of sand ginger disease. It is not suitable to weed at this stage, and the focus should be on disease and pest prevention and control.

Planting Ginger in Autumn

It can be planted in autumn from August to September. The soil needs to be plowed about 15 days before planting, and then the soil needs to be sterilized and disinfected. At the same time, the soil should be plowed and cultivated, and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied.

Planting Ginger in Winter

It can be planted in December in winter. Seed selection is very important for winter planting. Before planting, you should choose fully mature galangal with thin skin, no disease, uniform size, and relatively hard texture as seeds.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose a warm, sunny, moist place that is easy to drain and irrigate for planting sand ginger. The soil should be loose, fertile sandy loam and loam. Renovate the soil in advance and apply enough base fertilizer. After fertilization, turn the soil again, rake and level it in preparation for sowing.

2. Planting method

It is best to plant sand ginger in mid-April. The main planting methods are hole planting or planting in horizontal furrows on the ridges, but hole planting is better. Dig holes with a row distance of 27 cm by 27 cm, about 16 cm deep, plant 3 gingers in each hole, and cover the soil with a thickness of about 10 cm.

3. Maintenance and management

After planting sand ginger, water it to keep the soil moist, so that the seedlings can grow evenly and strong. Drain the water in time during the rainy season. After the seedlings emerge evenly, you can carry out inter-row cultivation and weeding to reduce nutrient loss. Generally, top dressing is carried out three times. The first time is in June when the seedlings emerge, the second time is before the leaves cover the bed in July, and the third time is from late September to early October.
