How to prune succulent plants

When to prune succulents

It is best to prune succulents in spring and autumn because the air is cool in these two seasons. Most succulents grow luxuriantly in these two seasons. The mother plant after beheading is easy to sprout again, and the seedlings that are cut off are also very easy to grow.

Use a knife to cut the broken part of the succulents flat, and place the processed succulents in a cool and ventilated place to dry for 3-7 days. You can apply carbendazim powder on the cut part of the succulents, and then dry them in the sun. After the wound of the succulents is completely dried, prepare moist soil, plant the succulents in the moist soil, and compact the surrounding soil with your hands.

Succulent pruning

It is not a good thing for succulents to grow tall, as it will make them lose their beauty, so timely measures need to be taken to control them. The most appropriate way is to pinch the tips, or it can be called topping, which is to cut off the top and then prune frequently to maintain it.

Succulent pruning tips

When pruning succulents, you cannot just cut off the excess parts. Only by constantly pruning them will they grow out of the pot. After pruning, you need to cover the succulents with a layer of soil, then water them thoroughly with a watering can, and finally place them in a cool, ventilated place.

When caring for succulents, you can behead and prune them when they are growing luxuriantly. Because succulents grow very slowly, frequent pruning is more conducive to their growth.

Succulent pruning and flowering

If succulent plants grow many side buds, you can remove these side buds to avoid excessive consumption of nutrients and promote plant growth. After the flower buds grow, you can trim the side buds to allow its main buds to grow, avoiding the side buds competing with it for nutrients, which will result in poor flowering.

Precautions for pruning succulent plants

Succulents should be pruned on sunny days, because if they are pruned on rainy days, their wounds will heal slowly, and if they are exposed to rain, they will be easily infected by bacteria, leading to the occurrence of diseases and insect pests.
