How to prune Michelia

How to prune Michelia

1. Cut off unnecessary branches

Overcrowded branches, branches with buds on the main trunk, and branches that grow inward will all hinder the growth of this flower. Only by cutting off unnecessary branches such as overgrown branches and sick and weak branches can it make the flower look refreshing and not dull. If you feel that the branches growing from the main trunk of this flower are too narrow, in order to ensure the balance and strength of its shape, even the thick branches should be cut off. But be careful not to over-prune it. After flowering, the ripe fruits need to be cut off to reduce nutrient consumption. Before the buds sprout in spring, prune the old branches and leaves properly to facilitate the sprouting of new branches.

2. Adjust the tree shape

When pruning a plant, you should also pay attention to making certain adjustments to its shape. First, you should observe it, and then cut off the outer branches and the branches that make the crown look slightly messy, so as to adjust the shape and size of the tree. For example, if you want to increase the height of a tree or want to reduce its shape, you should start from the main trunk and the node, which is near the upper part of the branch fork. If you want its appearance to have a higher visual perception, you should reduce the number of side branches. If you want to reduce its size, you should shorten the main trunk and ensure that the number of side branches is not too small.

3. Optimize internal lighting

We can make flowers bloom inside the crown by reducing the shading power of branches and improving sunlight, ventilation and other conditions. On the basis of ensuring that the number of its branches and leaves can produce sufficient nutrients, it is moderately pruned to reduce the number of branches and leaves so that the interior can also receive sunlight, which has many benefits for its growth and development.
