How to prune grape seedlings

How to prune grape seedlings

Grape seedling pruning time

Grape seedlings are usually pruned one month after leaf fall, when nutrients are more plentiful and conducive to wound healing.

How to prune the branches and leaves of grape seedlings

Grape seedlings need to prune thin and useless branches to reduce nutrient consumption. During the seedling period, they can be topped to promote the growth of side branches and leaves. When the branches are long, they need to be shortened. Dense branches, diseased branches, old branches, overgrown branches or crossed branches also need to be pruned to make the plant shape more beautiful.

Grape seedling pruning tips

If the grape seedlings do not grow well in the early stages of growth, you can shrink them back onto strong branches. If the front end of the branches grows vigorously but the back end is bare, you can press the vines to renew them. If the plant grows for a long time and does not bear fruit, you can remove it directly.

In addition, the grape seedlings can be topped to inhibit excessive growth of new shoots, concentrate nutrients in the inflorescence, and increase the fruit set rate.

Grape seedlings need to be pruned before they can bloom

Grape seedlings can be topped 3-7 days before flowering. It should not be too early to avoid affecting the growth of the plant. If it is too late, the inflorescence will not get enough nutrition and will not bloom well.

Grape seedling pruning results in more

If the grape seedlings are not growing well and their branches are very weak, you can pinch off 1/4-1/5 of the inflorescence 5 days before flowering to increase the fruit setting rate.

Precautions for pruning grape seedlings

Before pruning the grape seedlings, the pruning tools need to be disinfected, and after pruning they need to be kept in a well-ventilated, cool place. The wounds must not be allowed to get wet to prevent them from rotting, which would affect the growth of the plants. Normal maintenance can only be performed after the wounds have healed.
