How to water potted hosta

How to water potted hosta

Spring Watering of Potted Hostas

In early spring, it is necessary to water the plants thoroughly to ensure they will turn green again. After a long winter, the soil has less moisture and is drier, with salt and alkali rising up. If there is insufficient water supply at this time, the hosta is often prone to die from lack of water or physiological drought. Remember that watering should penetrate about 30 cm from the soil surface, and flooding is preferred.

As the temperature gradually rises, the growth of hosta accelerates. At this time, you should control the frequency of watering, otherwise the roots of the hosta will be concentrated on the soil surface.

After light rain in March and April, the hosta must be watered in time because the soil will return to salinity faster, and it must be watered thoroughly at one time. The watering depth should be 20 to 30 cm.

The suitable time for watering in early spring is at noon, when the water temperature is higher and watering is less likely to damage the root system.

Summer watering of potted hosta

Please note that watering should not be neglected in summer. Although there is a lot of precipitation in summer, it is not evenly distributed and the intervals between rains are sometimes very long, so watering is necessary.

The rainy season in North China is in July and August. At this time, the air is humid, hot and humid. It is necessary to do a good job of drainage and ventilation of the hosta. It should be watered thoroughly once a month, especially after a light rain, to pay attention to replenishing water to prevent salt and alkali from burning the leaves.

When watering, make sure to water thoroughly, about 30 cm deep into the soil layer. The next time you water, wait until the hosta appears to wilt slightly. Watering should not be too frequent.

The suitable time for watering in summer is generally in the early morning. Try not to water in the evening or at night. Keep the leaves dry during this period to prevent the plants from getting sick. Also, avoid watering at noon, as the high temperature at this time can easily cause plant burns and cause diseases. Watering should be done evenly to avoid too dry or too wet conditions.
