How many years does it take for pine to bear fruit?

Introduction to Pine Planting

Korean pine is also known as fruit pine. Except for the cold winter, it can be sown as long as the outdoor temperature is above five degrees. Due to different natural factors, the sowing time is not fixed in different regions. Fruit pine is mainly distributed in Changbai Mountain, Jilin Mountain Area and Lesser Khingan Mountains in Northeast my country. It often grows in forest areas at an altitude of 150-1800 meters. It is itself a variety of pine.

Fruit pine has been planted for several years.

The fruit pine bears fruit very late, taking 80-140 years under natural forest conditions and 15-20 years under artificial forest conditions. Its cones are large and heavy, 9-14 cm long and 6-8 cm in diameter, and are conical-oval, conical-oblong or ovate-rectangular in shape. The flowering period is June, and the cones mature in September-October of the second year. They are easily blown off by the wind before and after maturity.

The seedling period of red pine takes about one month. It germinates fastest when the temperature is above 16 degrees. It needs to be watered in time to prevent birds from pecking. The roots grow faster in the seedling stage. The main root can be up to 10 cm long and 4-5 lateral roots can grow. However, the seedling height growth is very small and the resistance is very poor. Attention should be paid to watering, cooling, and shading.

Grafted fruit pine blooms and bears fruit

The cone pine is a monoecious plant with different flowers. It blooms in June every year. It takes 15 months from flowering to the ripening of cones. The harvesting time is long, up to 4 months.

Potted fruit pine with fruit

Potted fruit pines need a long time of care before they can bear fruit, usually more than 25 years, and grafted trees still need about 12 years to bear seeds.

Why don't pine trees bear fruit?

Korean pine is mainly distributed in the Changbai Mountain area, Jilin Mountain area and Lesser Khingan Mountains in Northeast China. The climate in the south is hot and not suitable for the growth of Korean pine. If it is forcibly planted in the south, it is difficult to bear fruit. In addition, the reason why Korean pine does not bear fruit is probably because the time has not come yet. It takes a long time from planting to bearing fruit.

Key points for growing pine

1. Choose the right time, which is generally spring or autumn, but you can also choose the rainy season. Planting in the rainy season has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that it can save labor, and the disadvantage is that you must grasp the timing, otherwise it is easy to cause the seedlings to die or wilt due to insufficient water supply.

2. Since fruit pine has high requirements on site conditions, the basic requirement for site selection is low terrain without water accumulation. In order to achieve rapid and high economic benefits, container seedlings should be transplanted on site to ensure their survival rate.

3. For successfully grafted fruit pine seedlings, the growth of non-grafted branches must be controlled and ensured to be removed in time to avoid adverse effects on the grafted branches. Fruit pine can bear fruit in about 6 to 7 years after grafting. In order to reduce barren grains, artificial assisted pollination should be carried out according to climatic conditions.

4. Water and fertilizer management and various types of damage to the fruit pine seedlings. For example, water should be sprayed to prevent pests, watch out for birds pecking, and apply fertilizer and loosen the soil in time. Warmth measures should be taken for the red pine seedlings of the same year. 2 to 3 year old seedlings should be used for afforestation, and the seedlings should be buried in the soil to protect the seedlings.
