How many years does it take for avocado trees to bear fruit?

Avocado trees bear fruit after several years of planting

According to the planting situation in my country's coastal cities and provinces, avocado trees will bear fruit after 3-4 years of planting under normal conditions. If it is in tropical areas, the fruiting time will be earlier, usually in the second year of planting. This generally refers to the planting of grafted avocado seedlings.

If it grows naturally in the wild, it will take more than 6-8 years for it to bear fruit. In addition, avocados usually bloom in February and March in spring and bear fruit in August and September each year, so based on the flowering time of the fruit trees, they will generally bear fruit in the year of flowering.

Grafted avocado trees bloom and bear fruit

Avocado tree seedlings that have been grafted for two years will bloom and bear fruit next year. Planting avocado trees is relatively troublesome, and the seeds cannot be buried directly in the soil and wait for them to germinate and grow. The survival rate is relatively low, so large-scale planting requires special seed cultivation.

If it is potted planting, it is relatively simple because the amount planted is not large. One thing that needs to be explained is that avocado trees planted in pots for ornamental purposes will not bear fruit because the soil, light, pollination and other conditions cannot be met.

Potted avocado tree with fruit

Avocado trees grown in pots can bear fruit and need to be cared for for 3-4 years, but the chance is not very high and it is not easy, so if they are cared for as green potted plants on a daily basis, their ornamental value will be very high. They have very strong adaptability, and as long as the soil is breathable and drainable on a daily basis, it will be fine. Also, attention should be paid to the provision of light and nutrients.

Why don't avocado trees bear fruit?

The avocado tree may not bear fruit because it is not suitable for the area, or because the branches and leaves are too lush and take away most of the nutrients from the main trunk. Pay more attention to pruning the branches.

Avocado planting techniques and key points

Avocado trees were originally distributed in tropical Africa. China's Yunnan Yuanjiang Introduction Station has large-scale cultivation of them. They prefer warm, humid and sunny environments. When the soil is dry, they must be watered in time, but water accumulation is not allowed. It is best to keep the soil moist without accumulation of water.
