Free-range pig farming is a popular farming method currently, but not all places are suitable for free-range pig farming. In order to ensure the success of breeding, it is necessary to choose a suitable location and build a suitable simple pig house. Free range pigs do not mean completely free range. Let’s learn about the breeding methods of free-range pigs. 1. Choose good varieties Elite breed pigs are usually first-generation hybrid pigs produced by crossing Landrace or Yorkshire pigs with local sows or Sutai sows. These pigs are characterized by strong vitality, wide diet, rapid growth and high lean meat rate. 2. Reasonable feed preparation For piglets weighing less than 25 kg, special feed for suckling pigs should be given priority. For pigs weighing more than 25 kg, complete feed containing a variety of raw materials should be formulated according to the needs of different growth stages to ensure comprehensive nutrition and no waste. 3. Combination of concentrated feed and green feed Pig breeding should not rely solely on concentrated feed, because single concentrated feed is not nutritionally complete and has high cost, which will affect the growth rate of pigs. The combination of concentrate feed and green fodder can provide comprehensive nutrition, including crude fiber, vitamins and minerals , while reducing costs and promoting rapid growth of pigs. 4. Use the linear fattening method The traditional method of raising pigs on hanging racks has a long cycle, low meat yield and high cost, and is no longer applicable. The linear fattening method should be adopted to provide high nutritional level feeding from weaned piglets to market, which can significantly shorten the breeding cycle, improve the market rate, and thus increase economic benefits. 5. Feed regularly and quantitatively The pigs should be fed twice a day at regular intervals, the first feeding at around 8 a.m. and the second feeding at around 5 p.m., and an additional feeding of green feed at around 12 noon to supplement trace elements, save concentrated feed and reduce costs. 6. Self-breeding and self-feeding model For ordinary farmers, they can choose to purchase first-generation hybrid piglets for breeding. For large-scale farming, priority should be given to selecting excellent boars and sows, breeding hybrid first-generation piglets, and raising commercial pigs to increase the survival rate, which is conducive to disease prevention and control and reducing costs. 7. Build a suitable pig house environment In spring, you can plant plants such as melon vines around the pig house, which can provide shade and cooling in summer and autumn. Plastic greenhouses should be installed in pig houses in winter to maintain a suitable temperature and promote the growth and development of pigs. 8. Timely prevention and treatment Pig houses should be kept clean, swept and cleaned regularly, and deworming and immunization should be carried out regularly. Prevention is the key, early detection and early treatment should be carried out to minimize the death of pigs. 9. Reasonably arrange the time of release When pigs weigh 90 kilograms, their growth rate will gradually slow down and it will no longer be economical to continue raising them. Usually, when pigs weigh about 100 kilograms, they can be slaughtered and supplied to the market. The above is an introduction to the breeding methods of free-range pigs. In fact, there are many aspects of free-range pig breeding technology that require attention, so everyone should pay more attention.
