Watermelon is generally more suitable for growing in a warm and well-lit environment, and has relatively large requirements for the temperature difference between day and night. Usually, the producing areas of watermelon are mainly concentrated in Hebei, Northwest China, Gansu, and Lanzhou, and the planting range is very wide.

The most suitable growth temperature for watermelon is around 18-32 degrees. Watermelon is not cold-resistant and is afraid of freezing, but it has good high temperature resistance and can generally withstand a high temperature of 40 degrees. The watermelon will be frostbitten in an environment of 5 degrees.

Watermelon growth period and process

Watermelon generally grows in tropical to temperate regions. It is usually planted in spring and winter. It is usually most suitable to plant it around March and April in spring. After that, the watermelon will begin to grow and the fruit will mature in early summer.

During its entire growth cycle, watermelon goes through several stages including germination, vine sprouting, flowering, fruit setting and fruiting. Generally, watermelon has a greater demand for water when sprouting and leafing, and it is better for it to receive sunlight frequently during the fruit expansion period.

Watermelon Planting Process and Methods

1. Seed treatment: Wash healthy and plump watermelon seeds, then soak them in clean water to germinate. After the seeds turn white, they can be used for sowing.

2. Prepare the soil: Choose loose, fertile, organic-rich sandy soil with convenient drainage and irrigation for planting, and deep turn the soil before planting.

3. Planting: Plant the processed seeds in the soil. Before planting, you can apply some decomposed organic fertilizer to the soil as base fertilizer.
