How to grow Oxalis

How to grow Oxalis

Key points for cultivating Oxalis

1. Seed selection

There are many varieties of Oxalis, but the bulbs are small and easily overflow the pot. You can choose a pot of about 15 cm in size and choose a pot with good water permeability. You can use fertile, well-drained sandy soil. It is appropriate to plant 3 bulbs in each pot. Too many bulbs will cause crowding and stop growing.

2. Soil

Choose well-drained sandy soil for planting Oxalis to prevent water accumulation and root rot. First put the soil about half of the pot, then put the Oxalis in, cover it with a thickness of about 3 cm, then water it thoroughly, and place the potted plant in a cool place to avoid sunlight.

3. Lighting

After the Oxalis seedlings grow, if the temperature is too high, the potted plants need to be placed in a ventilated place with diffuse light. When the temperature is too low, the potted plants can be placed in a sunny, ventilated place. Oxalis has relatively high requirements for light, so they can be placed on a balcony with half-day sunlight for maintenance, which can promote plant growth.

4. Water and fertilizer

Oxalis blooms in large quantities and requires a large amount of nutrients during the growing season. Thin fertilizer can be applied every once in a while, and also during the flowering period to ensure adequate nutrition. Oxalis should be sprayed with water, and be careful not to allow water to accumulate in the pot.

Notes on Oxalis maintenance

1. The soil of the Oxalis potted plant can be replaced every two or three years. During this period, the soil can be loosened in time. Sandy soil can be selected as the new soil and mixed with river sand, base fertilizer, etc. After replacement, water it slightly and then place it in a place with suitable temperature and no strong light.

2. Oxalis is prone to powdery mildew in summer, especially in poor ventilation and light conditions. This disease can cause the leaves to mold and even fall off in large areas. It can be treated with thiophanate-methyl.
